New Looks and New Performance

I’m finally moved this Blog to its new server and changing its appearance as well. Now it is using Andreas 08 3 cms ver 1.2 themes. I was choosing this themes because of its simplicity and it uses less background images since I was expecting a better loading performance.

The default themes is appears normal on Firefox but when I use Microsoft Internet Explorer 6 (IE 6), the right sidebar was pushed down and not appear side by side with the left side bar. Both sidebar is using floating box style which IE 6 couldn’t render it correctly. To solve this problem I added following parameter on right sidebar style.

_position:absolute;_margin-right:10pt;_left:790px;_top:155px

This line apparently transformed the right sidebar box from relative positioning to fixed position. Underscore in front of each parameter make those line has meaning only for IE and meaningless for another browser. Just make sure you add those line in the last part to let IE override previous parameter.

To improve blog performance even more, I’m using several wordpress plugin and WP-cache 2 is one of them. Unlike on the previous server which allow WP-Cache to create its symbolic link automatically, this server forbid automatic sym-link creation. So I have to ask the admin to create symbolic link manually. Fortunatelly I found modified version of WP-cache which allows me to activate WordPress cache without requiring a symbolic link. It really save my time.
