Pest On Your Garden

18 July 2007

In my opinion, insects are one of the worst pest for your garden; they can live almost anywhere from under the soil, in old weeds or piles of leaves, or even in the house. However you can keep them away from your garden by removing any possible living places for those pest in your garden.

First thing you have to do is removing excessive old leaves, weeds, or any other decaying matter that insects and diseases could be living in from your back yard. You can collect those litter and composting it. This compost processing will give you double benefit for you, not only reducing pest but also give you precious organic matters.

It also necessary, to regularly turn over your garden soil and break apart any clumps of dirt. By doing so you can ensure that you can reduce any living spaces for any insects that might be hiding underground.

Another way to reduce pest on your garden is to use dormant spray. This chemical substance is used to keep destructive insects and diseases under control. However this method is less favorable for me. Make sure you follows the instruction carefully when applying any chemical method to reduce pest. It is best when those chemical has reduction effect on particular insect species. Because some insects can be beneficial to your garden though, so be sure to find out which insects help your garden.

You can also reducing those pest in the garden by “inviting” insect predators i.e. birds. Many birds species is really helpful to reduce harmful insect number. Therefore instead of chasing those birds away of your garden, you can add garden decoration which attract birds to stay longer on your garden. However its still necessary to have a bird feeder in the back yard, just to ensure that those birds not destroying your plants.
