You can up-skill or re-skill at any age, even if you have had a long absence from the workforce. Many training programs are now provided around family and financial responsibilities, giving you flexibility to choose how, when and where you train. Demographic statistics have shown that our workforce is ageing. Mature age workers are currently seen as a source of new skills and are an important component of business growth. However, mature aged workers often face barriers to employment and training. The Australian Government has made available a range of support to encourage businesses to take on mature age workers. This support includes the following:. The Mature Aged Worker incentive is provided to employers who employ a mature aged worker in a Certificate II level or higher who is 45 years of age or older and has faced particular challenges. You do not need a secondary school certificate or other qualification to be able to do a mature age apprenticeship or mature age traineeship. Your interest could stem from simply wishing to change careers or a need to re-enter the workforce.
In , there were 6, people age 65 and older killed in motor vehicle traffic crashes. This heightened risk is largely due to older drivers' increased vulnerability to injury, rather than a higher likelihood of getting into crashes. Changes in vision, physical strength and cognition can contribute to a loss of self-confidence in the ability to operate a motor vehicle. However, losing one's drivers license is equated by some older adults with a loss of independence and personal freedom. Faced with this choice, some mature drivers risk personal injury rather than give up their license. State motor vehicle and local law enforcement agencies have different perspectives on the risks of mature drivers. This free resource also includes innovative programs that licensing officials, policymakers and others can use to address the needs of older and medically-at-risk drivers. Traffic Safety Facts. Furthermore, the theory of aged heterogeneity posits that interindividual variability of similarly aged adults increases over time, suggesting that subjective age may become more variable in later life.
Person-centered approaches, in contrast, acknowledge interindividual heterogeneity in the aging experience, providing an alternative angle of investigation, and enable insights into how variables operate conjointly within persons. Therefore, the current research uses a latent profile analysis to investigate various conceptualizations of subjective age among late-career employees. Using a time-lagged design with a sample of older workers aged 50—66 years , we uncover three distinct subjective age profiles: Youthfuls , Matures , and Veterans.
Moreover, we investigate how person-related correlates of subjective aging differ between the uncovered profiles, and how, in turn, these profiles are related to work engagement and organizational citizenship behavior. Through a person-centered approach, we receive valuable insights on the concurrent interplay of various subjective age concepts in a highly heterogeneous population and provide a better understanding of subjective age in late career.
